AIM-listed innovator secures US patent as it targets American market

XEROS has added a US patent as it takes another step towards its aim of revolutionising the laundry market.

The AIM-listed company, which spun out of the University of Leeds in 2006 and is now based in Rotherham, has come up with a way of cleaning clothes by using 70% less water and 50% less energy.

It has this week been shortlisted in the Innovator category in TheBusinessDesk.com’s 2015 Business Masters.

It aims to develop and commercialise years of research into textile dyeing and the use of polymer beads for cleaning, by using tiny polymer beads in the drum to absorb dirt.

The US is a hugely-important market for the company, which is initially targeting hotels and dry cleaners, because of its size and the increased pressure on water and energy.

The United States Patent Office has issued the company a Notice of Allowance on a patent application covering its core polymer bead cleaning process.

The Xeros patent portfolio comprises 36 patent families pending and granted, which cover bead cleaning and bead treatment technology in applications from commercial and domestic laundry through to leather and wool processing, as well as metal surface cleaning.

The Group’s core polymer bead cleaning applications have already been granted in key jurisdictions including Europe, China, Japan, S.Korea, Australia and Canada.
