York and North Yorkshire: Road investment to drive growth

THE York, North Yorkshire and East Riding (YNYER) Local Enterprise Partnership has secured an extra £12.1m to be invested in the area between 2016 and 2021.

The additional proposed projects include investment in the A1079 between Hull and York, and the A1/A59 (Junction 47) near Harrogate to enable future housing and employment growth.

There is also money for a flood defence project in Skipton and road investment to enable the creation of leading agri-business facilities in Malton town centre.

Barry Dodd CBE, chairman of York, North Yorkshire & East Riding LEP, said: “As a principally rural LEP with strong food and tourism sectors, it’s important that we have projects that can support the growing ambitions of our small businesses while opening up opportunities around agritech and biorenewables. Ultimately, this will create high quality jobs, additional housing and grow our economy”

Cllr John Weighell, leader of North Yorkshire County Council, added: “The excellent Growth Deal enables important projects for the whole of the region to move forward for the benefit of both residents and businesses.”
