Morrisons ‘ David Potts appeals to the public for support

ON HIS first day at Morrisons, David Potts said it is a “privilege” to be running Morrisons, and has asked staff and customers to help improve the supermarket chain.

In the video published to Facebook, Mr Potts said it was his job to listen to as many of Morrisons’ customers as possible  to see what it is that people love about Morrisons, and also what they’d like to see less of.

He said: “You’d be helping me a great deal as I undertake this job, if you were able to contribute your thoughts to the way we can improve your shopping at our business, in our stores and online.

“I’m very eager to learn and would appreciate it very much.”

Mr Potts promised a two-way street in which he would feed back what he will be doing with the firm over the coming months.

The industry veteran replaces Dalton Philips, who was sacked in January over the supermarket’s poor performance over the Christmas period.

Mr Potts spent 38 years at Tesco, starting off stacking shelves, then rising through the ranks, before quitting in 2011.

Chairman Andrew Higginson, who has been in place for just over a month, said: “David is the best retailer I have worked with in 25 years in the industry.

“He will bring to Morrisons a focus on the customer, a track record of delivery, flair, talent, and immense energy to his new role.”
