ITM boosts fuel cell car market with £2.9m contracts

CLEAN fuel and energy strorage firm ITM Power has received a £2.89m grant  to build two new hydrogen refuelling stations in London for fuel cell cars.

The firm has also been contracted to upgrade four existing stations, one of which is in Rotherham.

One of the new stations will be built on the forecourt of a major fuel retailer which ITM Power signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the retailer to build up to three refuelling stations in London.

They will be seeking funding support for at least one more station.

Dr Graham Cooley, chief executive of ITM Power, said: “The funding for these new refuelling stations in London, coupled with partnering a major global fuel retailer are both important steps in the roll out of Hydrogen mobility in the UK. By the beginning of 2016 ITM Power will own and operate six HRS in the UK, centred on London”

ITM received the grant from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles which aims to have 65 hydrogen refuelling stations in the UK by 2020

The firm is attempting to play a key role in making the UK an attractive launch market for fuel cell vehicles.
