Start-up company capitalises on Hull’s City of Culture crown

A START-UP company, owned by Hull City Council, is set to manage the city’s cultural offerings after winning the UK City of Culture 2017.

Hull Culture and Leisure (HCAL) will manage tourist information, Hull Arena, Theatre and City Hall, as well as museums, galleries and sporting facilities.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, chairperson of the Hull Culture and Leisure board said:”This is an exciting time for us. Creating this company opens up a whole host of new opportunities, not least in terms of gaining funding from sources previously not available to us as a Local Authority.

“The transition to the new company will be seamless and residents should not see any difference in the service we provide.

“I look forward to seeing how the company will progress and the benefits it will bring to the city”.

HCAL has launched a new website to promote tourism in Hull and East Yorkshire online.
