Seven days, seven stories: A round-up of this week’s Yorkshire news

DESPITE the four day weekend, it has been a busy week for the Yorkshire business world.

Entrepreneur Steve Parkin is embarking on another venture after the massive success of his logistics firm Clipper with the launch of Knaresborough Investments, announcing one of their first investments in interiors firm Southerns, which is planning major growth.

TheBusinessDesk.com spoke to Mr Parkin about his investment in the business and his aim to target quality businesses and boost them with his own extensive knowledge of business.

One of the biggest success stories of the week however was on the former Emmerdale TV studios which are being redeveloped, creating 600 jobs , a massive boost for the area and local economy. Planning permission was granted for over 200,000 sq ft of office retail and leisure space.

Meanwhile Town Centre Securities division Citipark has undergone a major rebrand and is now going full throttle with expansion plans and our Editor spoke to Citipark’s managing director Ben Ziff about the advancements in technology that are driving his sector forward.

It’s also been a good week for speculative development in West Yorkshire as well, with experts from Knight Frank suggesting that developers are becoming more and more confident about investing in the area.

It was bad news for York-based Shepherd Construction this week, as a potential 180 jobs are in danger and likely to be axed after poor results in the past year.

Another epic fail from an unlikely source as a Castleford bed and mattress company found itself in the Advertising Standards Agency’s crosshairs with a slightly confused ruling which involved the potential mix up with the word “ship” and um, a profanity unsuitable for children. On the assumption that young children are both aware of such language of course.

Of course, one of the best news pieces of the week (in our opinion) was the news that TheBusinessDesk.com in Yorkshire had hit record pageviews in March and across the three regions, a grand total of 707,000 pageviews gave us a 20% increase on last year. So cheers to that!
