Decaying local authority site turned into business district offices

PROPERTY developers Allenby Commercial are responsible for transforming a decaying local authority property into offices in the heart of Hull’s Old Town business district.
The building in Alfred Gelder Street will provide the occupier with more than 40 parking spaces.
Alfred Gelder Street is the latest in a series of projects from Allenby Commercial which have delivered significant improvements to public and private buildings in Hull in recent years.
Allenby Commercial is set to announce details of a jobs boost as part of an inward investment at its fully-refurbished office suites at Chariot House in Carr Lane, Hull, and the company is also working on plans for a stylish aparthotel next to historic Holy Trinity Church.
Charlie Allenby, contracts manager at Allenby Commercial, said: “We have invested a substantial amount in the purchase and refurbishment of 93-95 Alfred Gelder Street, which we acquired in 2013.
“We are a local business, we think Hull is heading for good times and we are committed to doing what we can to support that.
“Our other projects demonstrate that we have a strong track record for completing projects to a very high standard.
“This particular building was in very poor condition when we purchased it from the local authority. We had a few options when it came to deciding what to do with it, but we decided to develop it for continued office use because we see that as the best way of supporting the city centre economy.”
Paul White, agency director at Garness Jones in Hull, said: “The location is key to the appeal of the building and so is the specification. The availability of car parking and even a garden on the first floor mean the occupier will be getting business park facilities with city centre convenience.
“With the charm of this building and others in the Old Town there is always a temptation to refurbish for residential use rather than offices, but it is important to maintain a balance economy and this development is a very good fit with nearby residential projects and the progress being made by Hull’s retail and leisure sector, including Allenby’s hotel plans.”
