Appointments: Grant Thornton, Dacres Commercial, Gibson Booth

BUSINESS adviser Grant Thornton has appointed two new members to its assurance practice in Sheffield. Tom Blandford and Rory Kelliher join as audit managers.

Mr Blandford, who joins as senior manager, has 11 years’ auditing experience having worked with a variety of accountancy firms and joins from Deloitte where he was a senior manager.

Mr Kelliher began his career in 2008 with Barber, Harrison and Platt (BHP), training with the firm and progressing to the role of assistant manager before joining Grant Thornton.

He has experience of working in audit with particular expertise within the manufacturing sector and of advising on pension schemes. As well as statutory audit work, Rory also undertook two industrial secondments.

The Land and Development arm of Dacres Commercial has appointed James Mohammed as a senior surveyor.

Mr Mohammed is a fully qualified Chartered Surveyor with over 11 years of experience in the property industry. He previously held positions at Town Centre Securities and Colliers International as well as successfully setting up a land and development business and a property maintenance company.

He will be based at Dacres Leeds office and will be working with the firm’s managing director Jonathan Isles, who heads up the Land and Development Division.

Mr Isles said: “Our division has won a wide range of multi-million pound sales instructions on behalf of NHS Trusts, Government bodies and UK plcs including Tesco recently, and James will be managing a number of our key clients.

“James has an in-depth knowledge of the property market and relevant consultancy experience advising on of a variety of residential and mixed use development sites and he will be a valuable asset to our team.”

A TAX director has been appointed at 100 year-old accountancy firm Gibson Boot

Andy Pearcy has been appointed as corporate tax director at Gibson Booth which has offices on Victoria Road in Barnsley.

Mr Pearcy, the former corporate tax manager, joins the managing director Robert Watson and two other directors as owners of the company.

Mr Pearcy studied accountancy at the University of Hull. He worked in the corporate tax departments of Grant Thornton and BDO before joining Gibson Booth two years ago.

He said: “We are one of very few accountancy firms of our size that has a dedicated tax department, but we see tax advice as a vital service for our clients. It’s about making sure that businesses work efficiently and are not hit by tax bills they aren’t expecting.”

Gibson Booth has 29 staff, in the region of 1,000 clients and a turnover which has been growing year on year. The company name goes back over a century to the Gibson family of Barnsley.
