CONSTRUCTION group Galliford Try has won a £38m contract to build five schools in Hull and East Riding.

The group’s Yorkshire and North East Building division, based in Normanton, has secured the work, which was announced alongside another education contract for Galliford Try, worth a further £17m from Moray Council.

The Yorkshire deal, which has reached financial close, is from the first phase of the Government’s Priority School Building Programme.

It includes the £18.6m construction of Hessle High School and Sixth Form College, as well as new buildings for Eastfield, Francis Askew, Wold and Ainthorpe primary schools.

Galliford Try’s executive chairman Greg Fitzgerald said: “Education remains a cornerstone for our Building business across the UK and we are delighted to have been awarded these contracts.”
