York entrepreneurs launch second pub venue

YORK-BASED publicans Paul Rodgers, Ian Carter and Mark Taylor have acquired their second city centre pub after securing a six-figure loan.

With the help of the Royal Bank of Scotland, the trio bought the Pheonix on George Street, beside York’s Bar Walls.

The entrepreneurs also operate the Black Horse, formerly The Tap and Spile in Monkgate, and Mr Carter runs The Masons Arms in Fishergate.

RBS supported the entrepreneurs with their loan under the Government-backed Funding for Lending Scheme, intended to make borrowing more affordable for SMEs.

Paul Rodgers, owner of The Phoenix Inn said: “We are thrilled that our acquisition of the Phoenix Inn has been successful and are really looking forward to getting more involved with the business and meeting our customers.

“The Phoenix is a great local pub and its popularity is testament to the successful way its previous owners have established and run the business.

“I’d like to thank Gary Butterfield at RBS for his support in helping us to buy the pub. The funding we have received has enabled us to complete the purchase and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.”

Gary Butterfield, business manager at RBS Corporate Banking said: “I am pleased that we have been able to support Paul, Ian and Mark and I’d like to wish them the very best with their latest venture. They are well experienced in the industry and will no doubt continue to make the Phoenix Inn a success.”
