Plans in pipeline for multi-million pound shopping park

PLANS have been submitted for a retail development in Doncaster with a pricetag of £2.5m.

Brownfield and urban developer St. Modwen has submitted planning to the council for the development on Waterdale Shopping Centre.

It will create 11,000 sq ft of retail space on a site that has previously been used as a car park, and a further 11,000 sq ft of restaurant and leisure space and “a number” of jobs in construction and later, retail.

The existing site has 40 retail stores, 37 one and three room apartments and office units.

Richard Bannister, regional manager at St. Modwen, said: “The planning application is in response to demand for units at Waterdale Shopping Centre. We are looking to build on this recent lettings success.

“The proposed redevelopment of the Young Street car park builds on the success of recent lettings.

“The vast majority of units on Kingsgate are now let, which is a positive sign of regeneration at Waterdale Shopping Centre and this area of Doncaster.”

St Modwen has invested in the shopping site on an “ongoing” basis.

The firm’s national portfolio includes the regeneration of New Covent Garden Market, London; the transformation of Longbridge, Birmingham and the delivery of Swansea University’s £450m Bay Campus.
