Yorkshire firms get a nod in Sunday Times HSBC biggest earners list

FIVE firms headquartered in Yorkshire have earnt their place on The Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 100 companies with the biggest sales.

Together, the five firms have boosted the regional economy, employing a total of 4,200 people in the region and achieving collective sales of £4.4bn, with combined profits of £845m.

First on the list is R&R Ice cream, a new entrant at number 87. The firm grew sales to £676m and has acquired businesses in Australia and South Africa.

At number 58 is construction firm Keepmoat, who were acquired by Sun Capital an TDR Capital from Lloyds Bank for £400m. The firm grew sales 5% to £931m for the year ending 14 March. The firm employs 2,921 people and completed a record 1,853 houses last year.

In 51st place is Bradford car dealership chain JCT600 owned wholly by the Tordoff company.

Another construction firm, Shepherd, made the list at number 84, despite its recent problems, the group reportedly made £686m in revenue with a profit of £32m.
However the biggest firm by far in Yorkshire is the Kelda Group, which grew sales to £1.1bn. Kelda and its subsidiaries which include Yorkshire Water supplies 5m people in the region with water and employs 3,347.

They feature next to a number of high-profile national brands, including Clarks, Dyson, JCB and Virgin Atlantic.

The Top Track 100 annual league table is sponsored by HSBC and Linklaters. It is compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events company.
