Terry’s Chocolate factory residential development given go-ahead

A PROPOSED development to convert the former Terry’s Chocolate factory into homes has been approved by the City of York Council.

Henry Boot Developments and PJ Livesey are converting the Grade-II listed building on Bishopthorpe Road into 173 flats.

They first acquired the former factory site in April 2013, according to the BBC.
Planning officers said building, which opened in 1926, was now in “structural disrepair” and had recommended approval.

The five-storey factory closed in 2005 after production moved abroad.

The company is developing 609,840 sq ft, and said it was still working on proposals for the rest of the site.

David Wilson Homes is developing homes on the remaining half of the site.
