Cooplands former HQ acquired by developer

THE former head office of bakery chain Cooplands has been bought up by a developer, headed up by businessman Peter Birch.

Wiseton Developments has acquired the site for an undisclosed sum, in a deal completed by Bilfinger GVA.

Administrators Deloitte called in Bilfinger to market the Doncaster site in March.

Cooplands went into administration in February this year, axing 300 jobs across its sites, after deteriorating trading and fixed manufacturing costs meant the firm was making unsustainable losses.

Alex Sweetman, associate in Bilfinger GVA’s Restructuring and Recovery team, said: “This successful sale once again demonstrates the demand for income producing commercial properties in sustainable locations.

“We are delighted to have secured the sale of Wheatley Mills on behalf of the administrator and wish the new owner every success in taking the property forward as an edge-of-town business park.”

The site now has six occupiers.
