Aire Valley site acquired for £10m redevelopment

TURNER DEVELOPMENTS has bought a 260,000 sq ft industrial site in Keighley, which it expects to be worth £10m once redeveloped.

The developer has partnered with Bradford Council to deliver a business park within the industrial heart of the Aire Valley.

It plans to build a mix of manufacturing and warehouse properties of up to 60,000 sq ft – though a single building of up to 150,000 sq ft could be accommodated – at the former Worthington site.

Mike Atkinson of agents Atkinson Associates said: “We identified a need for better quality industrial buildings in Keighley and the surrounding areas to replace the tired stock that many thriving and successful businesses occupy.

“This latest acquisition by Turner Developments shows their multi-million-pound commitment to the area and interest for new buildings on the site has already been encouraging. We are also delighted to be working with Bradford MBC to deliver the first significant brand new business park in Keighley for many years.”

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, portfolio holder for employment, skills and culture, said: “I’m really pleased that this long vacant brownfield site has been purchased by a local developer with an excellent track record.

“We will be working with the developer over the next three months to look at proposals to redevelop the site.

“Keighley is a great location for businesses and if the proposals are successful, then the additional business accommodation and job opportunities will be welcomed by local businesses and jobseekers alike.”

This latest project for Turner follows two highly successful industrial developments on Royd Ings Avenue where more than 500,000 sq ft of former Magnet buildings have been refurbished to create new space for several important Aire Valley businesses.[PAGE]
