Hull firm engineers £3m projects for port operator

HULL-BASED engineering company Spencer Group has secured two contracts with port operator ABP in recent months, totalling almost £3m.
In April, Spencer was contracted to complete the £1.5m relocation of Kingeo Substation at King George Dock in Hull. Now, it has secured a £1.3m package of works to install 12,000 sq metres of paving at the same facility.
This latest project is being delivered in parallel to the Kingeo Substation relocation contract, with Spencer’s team having started work in May and due to be finished on site by the end of August.
The works consist of a large cut and fill earthworks operation, followed by the installation of new drainage, ducting, kerbing and three 25m mast lights.
The new paved area will be used for the storage of timber by Global Shipping, a break-bulk cargo operator in the Humber ports.
Derek Barr, senior project director at Spencer, said: “This is the second award in two months we have received from ABP and we are extremely proud to be able to work so closely with the company. Last year, we successfully designed and built a rail loading of biomass facility at King George Dock, so we know the logistics of the site very well.”
The Kingeo Substation relocation project includes the design and construction of a new primary sub-station, including all civil and electrical work.
