Ison Harrison adds two offices with Maurice Smiths merger

LEEDS law firm Ison Harrison has taken over Maurice Smiths as it continues its steady growth strategy.
Maurice Smiths, which has offices in Castleford and Pontefract, will rebrand as Ison Harrison. The combined firm has 10 offices in West Yorkshire, in a belt between Ilkley and Pontefract, and employs nearly 200 staff.
Ison Harrison’s managing partner, Jonathan Wearing, said the merger reflects a continuation of an expansion plan that the Leeds firm have been following for the last six years.
He added: “We believe that you have to understand the markets that you move into and that you have to know what the public want from a law firm.”
Last year the firm added its Chapel Allerton office, while in 2012 it merged with Shaw Gillis.
Maurice Smiths dates back to 1933 and specialises in conveyancing, wills and probate, crime and family law. Its four partners – Richard Pinto, Rachel Warsop, Victoria Davis and Tony Gale – will all transfer over to Ison Harrison.
Ison Harrison’s private client partner Dominic Mackenzie added: “The type of work that Maurice Smiths have done successfully for many decades complements the services that we provide.”
