Legal firm set to launch commercial property calculator

LAW firm Beaumont Legal is launching a UK-first commercial property quote calculator.

Businesses can get quotes for commercial sales and purchases, new commercial leases for landlords and tenants.

They will be the first company to offer detailed quotes and aims at helping the SME community.

Solicitor Andrew Darnton of Beaumont Legal, who has spearheaded the development of the calculator, said: “We have a background in residential conveyancing but also have a strong commercial team and want to roll out our innovations to commercial property.

The development of the software around the commercial property calculator was due to a large number of clients putting commercial property quotes through the firm’s existing residential calculator.

“There’s a real appetite for it,” said Mr Darnton, “and we’re making is as easy as possible for clients to get a quote.

“You put basic details in and then it spits out a figure. We could go to town on it but we wanted to keep it as simple as possible, so that the lawyers can worry about the complicated background of it later on.

“It is a groundbreaking idea, no where else is doing this. There has been reluctance in some firms to do something this innovative, given the complications that can surround a commercial property deal, there are lots of variables.

“We’ve come out of a recession and moved on from the hourly fees model to fixed fees.

We know what our price structure is and we’ve already invested in technology for the residential team and know what works there. We got a headstart from what’s already working for us.

“The way that we live in the 21st century has obviously changed, people want things to change, but there has been a reluctance to move from status quo in legal sector.

“Despite the fact that we’re an old firm, (Beaumont Legal trace their roots back around 200 years) we’ve picked up on the modern way of doing things – it’s the way the world is going anyway. Some law firms are embracing it, others are not.

“At the end of the day, law is complicated but the firms that are thriving are the ones that are recognising that accessibility is changing, we don’t want to be limited by 9-5 hours.”
