Barbecue joint creates 35 jobs in Leeds

SHEFFIELD’s Smoke Barbecue is making its debut in West Yorkshire after a £1.0m deal with Town Centre Securities.

The Texan-style eatery has signed an agreement with TCS-owned Merrion Centre for a 4,462 sq ft site on Merrion Way in Leeds, and is set to create 35 jobs.

Owners Duka Nagy and Sean Gregory are investing £500,000 in a refurbishment of the site which is due to open in late September.

Smoke Barbecue has ambitious growth plans, and is already set to open a branch in Glasgow, its third in the UK, by the end of the year. Following that they are looking at the capital for expansion.

Duka Nagy said; “Our first restaurant in Sheffield has been a huge success and we’re confident that this can be repeated in other cities, starting with Leeds.

“There’s such a hub of activity going on, especially with the shops in the Merrion Centre and the first direct Arena, we are confident that customers will love this new offering.”

“Having worked in the hospitality industry for years, Sean and I are both aware of the challenges and pitfalls in the restaurant industry. We’re confident in our offering and ensure we provide the best possible experience to customers which is at the heart of our approach.”

Helen Green, associate director of estates for TCS said: “We are very pleased that Smoke have chosen the Merrion Centre as an attractive location from which to operate.”
