The Saucy Fish Co casts its net into the European market

GRIMSBY-BASED fish firm The Saucy Fish Co has thrown its net wider with expansion into Belgium.

The firm has signed an agreement with food retailer Delhaize, a major European chain which operates in seven countries across three continents.

Four Saucy Fish products will be stocked at 808 Delhaize stores across Belgium.

This follows on from further international expansion in 2014, as Saucy Fish moved into the US and Australian markets.

The Saucy Fish Co, founded in 2010, is part of the Icelandic firm Seachill, a major supplier of fresh and frozen seafood to UK retailers. The firm employs 1,400 people in the area.

Last year the firm won a legal battle against Aldi over a copycat brand which the High Court forced the German retailer to remove from its shelves.

Paul Macis, international and business development manager at The Saucy Fish Co. UK comments: “We’re very pleased to be partnering with Delhaize to introduce The Saucy Fish Co. brand to Belgium. International growth is a core part of Saucy’s strategy so we’re delighted to have this major listing secured within a leading European retailer.”

Kathleen Van Maele, marketing and product manager at Icelandic Gaudus commented: “Following the success of the brand’s other international launches; we’re very excited to be introducing The Saucy Fish Co. to a new market in Belgium.

“Having developed a range of products tailored to Belgian tastes, we’re confident the products will be well received and look forward to seeing the brand take off over the coming months.”
