Debts force York power station to sell off £1m of equipment

A RECOVERY agency has ordered that £1m of power generation equipment, some of it brand new, from a York site be sold to pay off its owner’s debts.

Tony and Gill Eyers launched the Walled Garden Partnership in 2012 to convert methane gas to electricity at the Alne site.

Now the equipment they bought, with a £1.5m funding package from Santander Corporate Banking, which was intended to power 2,000 homes in the area, is being auctioned by Eddisons this month.

The operational assets and ancillary plant of the gas engine-based power plant are being sold on the instruction of the High Court Enforcement Group following a Hugh Court judgement on the debt owed by the Walled Garden Partnership.

Jason Pinder, director and head of machinery and business assets at Eddisons, said: “Lots such as this don’t come to market very often – it’s a rare chance to acquire such high end, late model generation plant.

“As this was an ongoing project there is some brand new equipment that has not even been commissioned.
“We’re told that the trommel – the cylinder screen that sorts waste into different grades and sizes – is the longest in the country and has been certified for use in power stations,” he added.
