Lifestyle: Acorn Brewery, Welcome Skate Store, Pintura

BEER from a Wombwell Brewery are on sale in South Yorkshire Co-operative stores.

Acorn’s Barnsley Bitter, Barnsley Gold and Yorkshire Pride are on the shelves of more than 60 community-based Co-ops.

The Co-operative has launched a pilot scheme designed to champion local produce in local stores across Yorkshire.

More than 50 Yorkshire manufacturers and producers have been signed up to provide a range of items including eggs, ice cream, sweets, chutneys, sausages – and beer.

Owner of Acorn Brewery Dave Hughes said: “We are chuffed to bits that the Co-op have asked us get involved in their local produce campaign and very much welcome the opportunity to sell our beer to more people right on our doorstep.

“We’ve increased UK-wide sales over the years through wholesalers, supplying a network of shops, pubs and bars, but it is has always been tricky to target more locally-based outlets with smaller deliveries.

“It’s fantastic to now have this chance to go one sale in so many Co-ops based in communities across our Yorkshire heartland.”

Acorn Brewery was established in 2003 and is based on Aldham industrial estate in Wombwell. It currently employs 11 people and brews around 30,000 pints of real ale per week – with capacity increasing all the time.

LEEDS restaurant Pintura Kitchen & Bar has been shortlisted at the SBID Design Awards 2015.

The new restaurant, owned by Leelex Ltd, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Restaurant & Bar Design’ category.

It is up against a host of other restaurants and bars from across the globe including London, Taiwan, China and India.

The nomination is the second in three years to be awarded to the Leeds-based hospitality company, Leelex Ltd following a nomination in 2013 for its sister restaurant Cielo Blanco, based at Trinity Leeds.

Pintura Kitchen & Bar opened in February this year, also at Trinity Leeds, and has already established itself as a favourite on the Leeds dining scene thanks to its unique Basque-inspired food and high-quality interior design.

Leelex’s in-house design team worked in collaboration with Mirfield-based interior design company, Normal TM to create the new restaurant within an old, disused fire-exit stair-block at Trinity Shopping Centre in Leeds.

The Awards will be judged by international industry leaders – among them is Lewis Carnie, Head of Programmes of BBC; Sir Michael Dixon, Director of the Natural History Museum, London; Ben McOwen-Wilson, Director of YouTube EMEA; Kevin Mau, Senior Creative Director at The Boeing Company; David Lewis, Managing Director of Sunseeker, London and Jane Preston, Facilities Manager UK, Real Estate & Workplace Services, Google.

Ged Feltham, creative chief executive at Leelex Ltd commented: “We’re thrilled to be nominated for the SBID, joining some of the world’s best new restaurants. We’ve had a phenomenal response from Leeds diners since opening in February and to win this award would be the icing on the cake. We hope that our customers and supporters will vote for us.”
