European city routes from Flybe launched at Yorkshire airport

IN a “transformational” deal with Flybe, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is set to see flights to major European cities launch this week.

Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin have all been added to the roster of destinations available at Doncaster Sheffield.

There will also be flights chartered to Alicante, Faro, Jersey and Newquay.

Last week regional airline Flybe announced that it would be basing two aircraft at Doncaster Sheffield, which it said would increase passenger numbers coming through the South Yorkshire airport by 50%.

The increase in flights will create up to 60 jobs directly and deliver an economic boost to Sheffield City Region and the airport’s wider catchment area.

“This announcement is transformational for Sheffield City Region’s airport. We are truly delighted to be welcoming Flybe in this new long-term deal,” said Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Peter Kennan, chairman of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Transport Forum, and partner at Hawsons Chartered Accountants, said: “The announcement by Flybe that they will be basing two Embraer jets at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (DSA) is more great news for Sheffield City Region.

“The Forum believes this could have a transformational effect on the Sheffield City Region. At last we have hub connections via Paris and Amsterdam to worldwide destinations from our local airport. It is great news and Flybe must be thanked for their commitment to base two planes at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.”
