£3m natural gas pipeline supply contract for Thurston

WAKEFIELD manufacturer Thurston has signed a £3m contract with Amec Foster Wheeler for BP.

The company, which makes modular and portable building manufacturer, have signed a deal to supply the North Sea natural gas transportation system, the Central Area Transmission system in Teeside.

The company’s Ultrablast accommodation buildings will be supplied to Teeside on behalf of BP.

These blast-resistant buildings include standalone cabins as well as larger buildings with control rooms, offices and canteens.

Thurston said they are able to withstand a force of up to 1000 millibar over pressure for 100 milliseconds – the equivalent of exerting an 80-ton force.

Based at Quarry Hill Estate, the Thurston Group was established in 1970 and has factories at Beverley and Catfoss.

Last year Thurston promised 100 jobs last year on the back of foreign growth and expansion. At the time it employed 230 people across Yorkshire and had a turnover of £230m.
