CSR: NSPCC, Roundabout, Wakefield Hospice

LAW firm Squire Patton Boggs has pulled out all the stops for charity this year, culminating in a lunch last week for children’s charity the NSPCC.

Held at Chaophraya last week, the dinner brought together business leaders from across the professional services including RSM and Grant Thornton, as well as employees from the Leeds office of the law firm, which is set to move in the coming months to a new site on Wellington Place.

Money was raised through a successful raffle in which prizes included two First Direct arena tickets, ghd straighteners, and gin and wine tastings. Though the great raffle injustice of 2015 saw TheBusinessDesk.com’s deputy editor go home empty handed, Squire Patton Boggs’ employees and guests raised £2,350 for the charity.

Earlier in the week, an AIM dinner at Hazlewood Castle raised £1,400 for the NSPCC, taking the total for the year so far to £15,000 raised for the children’s charity.

The law firm also raised £15,500 for Barnardos after a cycle ride hosted in the summer. At this event, trainee Pete Worsencroft raised £9,200 for the cycle he did with other members of the Squires Leeds office, David Smith and Jon Chesman. The trio cycled 280 miles in five days in aid of the Movember Foundation testicular cancer charity.Jon Chesman, Peter Worsencroft and David Smith of Squire Patton Boggs

Around 20 battled the three peaks in typical English summer weather and an artwork donation by Hanging Man Gallery contributed towards the total.

The finale of Squire Patton Boggs’ fundraising events will be the Christmas Singathon. Members of the SPB office will be singing Christmas songs at Leeds railway station for the whole of the day the final Friday before Christmas.

Hannah Graham, associate at Squire Patton Boggs and part of the charity committee, said: “We have been really pleased at Squire Patton Boggs with how the lunch went and Chaophraya did a great job catering for us.

“We’re really hopeful that the Christmas Singathon will be a great success for the NSPCC as we catch those commuters, shoppers and Christmas party goers in generous festive spirits!”

DBL LogisticsMANAGING DIRECTOR of a Sheffield-based DBL Logistics, David Clarkson, has raised £1,345 after taking part in homeless charity Roundabout’s Sleepout event.

Mr Clarkson joined other participants in sleeping rough at CADS Works in Sheffield city centre. He underwent the challenge for the second time this year, after raising £2,290 taking part in April’s ‘Sleep United’ at Bramall Lane.

After the event, which has raised close to £15,000 in total so far, Mr Clarkson said: “DBL Logistics is a very proud supporter of Roundabout, and we pride ourselves on giving as much back to the local community as possible.

“The Sleepout is always a challenge but it does a great job in raising awareness of the issue.

“It gives people a brief insight into how hard sleeping rough is – and countless people across the region do it, night after night.

“Fantastic charities such as Roundabout help to combat the issue and are doing a sterling job – I’m only too happy to continue supporting them in the great work they do.”

Ruth Gage, Fundraising and communications manager at Roundabout, said: “We are extremely grateful to the continued support from DBL Logistics.

“The £3,500 David has raised in two Sleepout events alone is really impressive and will make a huge difference to the young people we support. They also provided the card for participants to sleep on which made organising the event that little bit smoother.”

Claire Kendall, partner at Richard Kendall, “Richard Kendall Estate Agent are proud to be once again supporting the Wakefield Hospice’s Wakefield 10k RUN for FUNds. Each year the event just gets bigger and we are delighted to be joined this year by Beaumont Legal, as we aim to make the Wakefield 10k 2016 run a record year for the Hospice and raise as much money as we can for our local charity who are exceptional in the care that they provide for our community.”

Nick Masheder, managing partner at Beaumont Legal, said: “We work closely with the team at Richard Kendall and they encouraged several members of our team to get involved in the Wakefield 10K this year.
