Leeds-educated QC sworn in as High Court judge

LEEDS-EDUCATED judge Mrs Bobbie Cheema-Grubb QC has been appointed as a justice of the High Court.

She will be the first Asian female High Court judge to be sworn in, at a ceremony in London.

Derby-born Mrs Cheema-Grubb attended the City of Leeds School and was called to the bar in 1989.

She replaces Mr Justice Kenneth Parker, who is retiring.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Mrs Cheema-Grubb to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Mr Cheema-Grubb was appointed as a Recorder in 2007 and is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

According to the Chamber Bar UK, Mrs Cheema-Grubb “is a well-respected Senior Treasury Counsel and Queen’s Counsel who invariably attracts the respect of the court and her opponents.

“She relishes complex and demanding cases wherever the instructions originate from and has been instructed in many high profile cases in recent years.

“In silk she intends to make time to develop her defence practice as well as continuing to prosecute terrorism, serious fraud and homicide at the Central Criminal Court and country-wide.”
