Leeds Fashion Festival ramps up catwalk plans for 2016

LEEDS Fashion Festival is aiming to become the “biggest fashion and shopping event outside of London” as it ramps up plans for its 2016 programme.

It is looking to build on the success of City Fashion Week, which was launched in 2013, and next year the festival will go live for Spring/Summer on March 5-6 and return again in early October for Autumn/Winter.

The festival is part of the positioning of Leeds on the UK’s fashion map as a leading fashion and shopping destination. The Leeds fashion scene is one of the strongest in the North, with the growth of independent designers and retail brands helped by the opening of Trinity Leeds in 2013 and Victoria Gate next year, make it an exciting time for the sector.

Looking to bring similar events on the scale of Clothes Show Live to the North, the event will have more than 30 catwalk shows featuring some of the best design talent that Leeds has on offer as well as showcasing high street brands alongside designer names.

The festival features multiple hair and beauty shows seeing high profile salons and beauty brands take to the stage, supported by mor than 50 pop-up shops, Style Zones, competitions, give aways and Know How to sessions by leading industry experts, sprinkled with a touch of celebrity.

Leeds Fashion Festival will feature special events for fashion students and young designers at the city’s universities who will have the opportunity to showcase their design talents on the catwalk.  The University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett and Leeds College of Art and Design have strong Fashion Design courses and its mix of students from all over the country and the world help to mould and shape the fashion scene in Leeds.

The search is now on for an emerging Young Fashion Designer and Accessories Designer from the city’s own talent pool and the winners will have the opportunity to show their design talent live on the catwalk as part of their prize.
