1,000 jobs promised through enterprise programme

A SOCIAL enterprise support programme from Business in the Community is launching in Yorkshire today, promising 1,000 jobs.
The BITC, a charity supported by Prince Charles, has created almost 2,917 jobs in London and the South East, and wants to roll out its social enterprise programme in Yorkshire.
Leeds-based retail giant Asda and development partner Interserve are teaming up to support the programme in the region, which is being launched in London today at Business in the Community’s annual AGM.
Initially launched to promote job creation in the host boroughs following the 2012 Olympics in London, it later expanded across West London and the South East.
BP, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Exterion Media, Deloitte, Visa Europe, InterContinental Hotels Group have backed the social enterprise programme down south.
A pilot programme in Yorkshire supported Legacy Sport CIC in Huddersfield, promoting healthy lifestyles, Paperworks, a print production company that provides workplace training and The Shine Nail Bar in Beeston.
It will give social entrepreneurs access to business support in training, marketing and how to win new business, as well as help with premises and supply chain introductions.
Jane Pritchard, enterprise and culture director, Business in the Community said: “The impact of our social enterprise programme in London provides a glimpse of the power of collaboration between big business and social enterprises, to create lasting change and vital employment in areas of need.
“With the invaluable support of our partners Asda and Interserve, we are currently recruiting social enterprises for the programme for next year and look forward to taking what we have learnt in London as we expand the programme in Yorkshire.”
