Brazilian restaurant entrepreneur launches Harrogate steakhouse

TWO entrepreneurs have launched plans for a Brazilian restaurant in Harrogate.

Former painter and decorator Alan Sheldon has partnered with Brazilian national Micheline de Oliveira Melo to launch Bodega Steakhouse.

They have acquired the former Square Bar & Restaurant in a deal brokered by property advisers Christie + Co.

The restaurant has been sold for an undisclosed sum off a £45,000 guide price for the Brazilian barbecue eatery.

The steakhouse concept was inspired by the new owners’ roots in South America and their time working for Brazilian rodizio chain Fazenda.

Located on Princes Square, directly adjacent to the new cinema complex, Square Bar and Restaurant served British dishes with a European twist, cooked with ingredients sourced from across Yorkshire. The new site Bodega will offer traditional Brazilian dishes as well as cured meat and sushi.

Oliver Brown, licensed specialist at Christie + Co said: “Being a prime located and excellent performing business, Square Bar & Restaurant attracted a lot of interest from experienced operators.

“As Harrogate continues to be a desirable location, we have agreed deals on two other sites in the last month and we are in touch with a large number of potential purchasers who are currently interested in taking space in the area.”
