York city centre hotel completes £3m, 18-month transformation

THE £3m transformation of a York hotel has been completed after an 18-month programme of work.
20 additional jobs have been created at the Monkbar Hotel while the investment in the Best Western hotel, will raise its star rating from three to four-plus.
An extension with 27 bedrooms and a function suite has been built and all of the public areas, meeting rooms and bedrooms have been upgraded.
Graham Usher, general manager of the Monkbar Hotel, said: “The Monkbar was opened 25 years ago and those familiar with old hotel will be in for a huge surprise when they next visit us. In fact, they won’t recognize it.
“We are incredibly proud of the new Monkbar, which is a hotel the whole of York can be proud of.”
One of the main features of the new-look hotel is its The Yorkshire bar and grill, open to residents and non residents.
Mr Usher added: “The new Yorkshire bar and grill is already proving to be a popular haunt with non-residents, who are keen to soak up the atmosphere and sample the new dishes created by head chef, Ben Allnutt.”
