220-bed hospital development launched

CONSTRUCTION giant Kier has won a £14m contract for a Grimsby hospital development.
It will deliver a 220-bed development at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
The hospital will feature 124 apartments for junior doctors and 96 rooms for student nurses.
The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust in the area said it was “key to attracting clinical staff”.
Kier has been appointed principal supply chain partner (PSCP) for a £14m key worker accommodation scheme in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire through the P21+ framework.
Cost advisors Edge, P+HS Architects, Hoare Lea and Curtins will collaborate to design the building.
The hospital will continue to function throughout the project.
Hughie Clarke, Kier framework manager, commented: “We are delighted to have been selected as principal supply chain partner for this important scheme for NLAG, which will provide new high quality and premium specification accommodation for vital key workers in Grimsby. The Trust chose us to deliver this scheme on the strength and experience in our team, our understanding of the wider challenges facing NLAG, and our collaborative approach, and we look forward to working closely with the Trust to develop highly desirable and aspirational accommodation that meets the expectations of today’s high calibre clinical staff.”
Jug Johal, director of estates and facilities at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The development of this land will allow us to build much-needed new accommodation for our clinical staff, which is a very important consideration for doctors and nurses both in this country and abroad who are looking for new jobs.
Outline planning approval is expected in January 2016 with work due to start on site in June 2016. The project is scheduled to complete in summer 2017.
