What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Any of the Yorkshire Dales, but Nidderdale is my favourite. It is less austere than the more northern dales, yet more rural than those to the south. You can enjoy the countryside without having to be kitted out in The North Face! Pretty walks and wonderful views. Otherwise Headingley Carnegie Stadium on a night the Leeds Rhinos are playing is right up there!

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

Buy a holiday home in Runswick Bay.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

Way back, my Mum’s roast beef and Yorkshire puddings took some beating! On numerous occasions though, when enjoying a day out in Nidderdale, either lunch or dinner cooked by Frances Atkins at the Michelin starred Yorke Arms in Ramsgill.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

Generosity! The legend that all Yorkshiremen are mean is utter rubbish

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

That we are desperate to be an independent nation.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Evidently Yorkshire has England’s biggest vale, biggest medieval cathedral, biggest abbey ruins, biggest parish church and the world’s biggest fish and chip shop. It‘s also God’s county with some pretty large egos! But for me it has to be the humble white rose. Personally, I’ve never forgiven Henry Tudor!

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

I cannot seriously blame my county for any bad experiences, but at this time I would like to put in a request for a little less wind and rain!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

I should say that they have nothing I would want, but on reflection, Manchester’s Central Convention Complex in the heart of Harrogate would be a big plus!

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

As I’ve just qualified for my senior person’s bus pass, so having checked the timetables, I have to say public transport. I’ve also decided to hang on to the Maserati!
