Morrisons invests £30m in staff

SUPERMARKET chain Morrisons is investing £30m in facilities for its staff.
The company said staff “play an important role in the revival of the company” and have consulted with staff over working conditions.
In September, the Bradford-based business committed to giving 90,000 store staff would receive a pay rise with hourly rates increasing from £6.83 to £8.20.
The store makeover across the board will take four years. New decor and furniture, free wifi and other technological additions are planned.
The fortunes of the supermarket chain have improved since chief executive David Potts was appointed.
It recently announced price cuts on 1,000 goods. Though its market share dipped earlier this month according to Kantar Worldpanel figures, results reflect the sale of the supermarket’s 140 M Local stores.
Morrisons chief executive, David Potts said: “We are a business that listens hard to colleagues and responds wherever possible. We asked our staff for their views about their stores and many commented about their restrooms saying they would like them to be more relaxing and offer a better food service.
“This investment will ensure they are provided with the facilities and food to help them recharge during their breaks.”
