Energy giant to cut 2,500 jobs

BIG SIX energy giant Npower is expected to cut 2,500 jobs after a period of poor performance.

Npower, owned by German parent company RWE, employs 11,500 people, with 7,500 stationed in the UK.

It employs around 1,900 of its workforce in Yorkshire, at sites in Leeds and Hull.

The BBC has reported that jobs are in jeopardy across its operations, including two major sites in Leeds, at Scarcroft and Limewood.

A spokesperson for Npower told TheBusinessDesk.com that the company were not releasing any information at this time.

Sales and marketing roles are set to be the first to go with the announcement on Tuesday, alongside its final results.

Dismal half year results posted in August 2015 showed that profits had been slashed by two thirds, to £38m.

The struggling energy supplier is no stranger to controversy. Last December Npower was forced to pay a £26m fine by Ofgem over poor customer service and inaccurate bills.

It received a staggering 2m complaints between September 2013 and December 2014. A botched billing system upgrade affected around 500,000 customers in the same period.
