Bakery rises to the top with Harvey Nichols deal

OTLEY business Bondgate Bakery is now supplying its bread to Polpo restaurant which has just opened on the fourth floor of Harvey Nichols Leeds.

This is the first out of London location for the feted Venetian eatery.

Polpo chef Oswaldo Colon said: “We’re always proud to work with local suppliers and we are very fortunate to have discovered such a good one with Bondgate Bakery.”

Sally Hinchliffe of Bondgate Bakery, which has just been shortlisted as Baker of the Year in the National Farm Shop and Deli Awards 2016, said: “We already supply Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Restaurant with favourites such as stilton and walnut bread, muesli bread, four seed bread and pain rustique, so I was really pleased to hear that Polpo wanted us to supply other breads, such as our foccaccia. We look forward to hearing feedback from their customers.”

Bondgate Bakery opened in 1984.

Ms Hinchliffe said: “Back then people didn’t call us artisan bakers, but that’s what we were, a small business rowing against the tide of factory produced bread that was loaded with additives and low on nutrition.”
