600 jobs on way as kitchen company cooks up £40m expansion plan

AROUND 600 jobs are to be created in Barton-upon-Humber after Wren Kitchens revealed plans for a £40m expansion.

The kitchen producer said it is to open a state-of-art manufacturing facility on its 750,000 sq ft site off Falkland Way to “keep up with customer demand.”

The new jobs would be created between now and 2017 across manufacturing, engineering, IT, customer services and training.

Currently the site is used as the company’s head office for warehousing and logistics.

Already 429 people are employed on the site which was taken over in 2013 from US firm Kimberly-Clark.

Wren’s finance director Mark Pullan said: “The company has experienced unprecedented sales growth since Christmas and over the next few years will be looking to almost triple the number of retail showrooms in the UK from 54 to 150. As a result the company is now converting its 750,000 sq ft facility at Barton Upon Humber into a manufacturing plant.

“Company sales now exceed quarter of a billion pounds and the company employs 2,491 people of which 1,352 are employed in the Humber region.”

Wren was founded in 2009 by Hull entrepreneur Malcolm Healey.
