Appointments: Langleys; Garbutt + Elliott; Harrison Spinks; Physio Med, Lighthouse Risk Services

ANDREW CRAGG has been promoted to lead the medical law team at Langleys Solicitors.

He takes on the role from Sally-Ann Robinson, who retires this month after more than 30 years with the law firm but will continue to act as a consultant.

She said: “I have had a very rewarding career with Langleys, helping many people to seek justice and improve health practices. Langleys’ medical law specialism has an excellent reputation for delivering professional and sensitive services to people at distressing times in their lives. This will continue with Andrew at the helm.”

Mr Cragg is a partner in medical law and has worked at Langleys for almost 10 years.

He is currently involved in a number of cases with high profile medical issues, such as the management of septicaemia. He specialises in claims relating to cerebral palsy, brain injury and misdiagnosis of cancer. 

“I am very pleased to be picking up the reins from Sally-Ann,” he said. “We have an extensive clinical negligence team and will continue to support people and their families while at the same time influencing and promoting best practice in health care through the cases we take on.”

Garbutt and Elliott has boosted its VAT service offering with the appointment of VAT specialist Alex Millar LEEDS and York-based accountancy firm Garbutt + Elliott has boosted its VAT service offering with the appointment of VAT specialist Alex Millar as a senior consultant.

Mr Millar has experience within several of Garbutt + Elliott’s key sectors, in particular the charity sector, and will head the firm’s VAT team, working alongside the existing tax team.

He said: “I was attracted by the quality of the client roster and the work the firm already undertakes, and am looking forward to heading a talented team and working with my fellow tax specialists.”

Garbutt + Elliott employs 104 people, including nine partners. Working predominantly with owner-managed businesses based throughout Yorkshire, the firm operates across a range of sectors including retail, manufacturing, food, brewing, creative arts, property, construction and horse racing.

Harrison Spinks has hired Michael Dingwall as manufacturing director.INNOVATIVE bed maker Harrison Spinks has appointed a manufacturing director.

Michael Dingwall will replace the Leeds-based company’s long-standing director, Don Parkes, who has been with the company for more than 12 years and has been instrumental in growing the business.

With more than 18 years’ experience gained at Silentnight, Mr Dingwall brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the new role. He will be operationally responsible for all of Harrison Spinks’ bed division, covering mattress, divan and headboard manufacturing, as well as HR, process control, work-study, maintenance and health and safety.

He joined Silentnight’s graduate management programme as a trainee in 1997, which enabled him to work in every department within the company before specialising in manufacturing. 

He said: “With unrivalled spring technology, Harrison Spinks is recognised as an innovative leader within the bed industry; and with such a positive and dynamic management team, I’m really looking forward to developing my expertise and working hard to take the business forward.”

OCCUPATIONAL physiotherapy provider Physio Med has expanded its management team with two appointments.

Clinical governance officer Paul Wimpenny will be responsible for overseeing Physio Med’s clinical scrutiny, as well as assisting in-house clinical director Mark Fletcher in managing the clinical side of the business.

Meanwhile, physio team leader Jon Bongcawel will also be working alongside Mark Fletcher to oversee a team of seven employees, while still practicing as a physiotherapist.

Phil Clayton, managing director of Physio Med, said: “The new roles that Jon and Paul are fulfilling are key to the on-going development of the business as we grow the services we offer to our clients and continue to innovate in the world of physiotherapy. They both bring a wealth of experience and talent to the business and we are confident they will be valuable assets to us.”

Physio Med was recently nominated in the ‘Innovator of the Year’ category at the 2016 Yorkshire Business Masters awards, in recognition of its ground-breaking approach in occupational physiotherapy.

LEEDS risks business has hired Gwyn Evans as a partner.

He joins Lighthouse Risk Services partner Chris Hall in heading up the team.

The health and safety and employment law consultancy firm is aiming to hit £1m turnover by April 2017.

Lighthouse was established in 2007, originally named JM Glendinning Risk Services, when health and safety specialist Chris Hall was approached to provide risk services as a division within the Guiseley based JM Glendinning group.

After a year, the division became a business in its own right and renamed itself Lighthouse Risk Services. It now has a turnover of £850,000 and works with over 400 clients across the UK.
