New routes take off at Yorkshire’s airports

TWO of Yorkshire’s airports have seen major airlines launch new routes, connecting the region with European destinations.
Regional airline Flybe has added another Belfast City flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to supplement its busy summer schedule.
Now there are up to five flights a day to Belfast from the West Yorkshire hub.
Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s chief revenue officer said that “time saving, affordable, punctual travel” is what the airline was aiming for.
Leeds Bradford Airport’s aviation development director Tony Hallwood added: “Belfast continues to one of Leeds Bradford’s strongest routes on our growing domestic network. We are pleased to work with Flybe to deliver increased frequency and provide increased flexibility for our business and leisure passengers.”
Elsewhere in the region, Humberside Airport has announced the launch of new flights between the Humber region and Denmark.
The East Yorkshire airport is teaming up with SUN-AIR, a franchise partner of British Airways to ensure passengers can travel to Aalborg and Billund in the Scandinavian country.
Flights will commence next week from 17 April.
Deborah Zost, Humberside Airport’s managing director, said: “We are excited about the new opportunities that this service will bring to the Humber region. It is great news not only from a commercial perspective, but it also provides further destinations for people across the region to explore. It also establishes links with Scandinavia for European tourists to visit Hull as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations in 2017.
“Our customers are now only two hours away from European tourist destinations such as Legoland, broadening the options for people in terms of weekend breaks and holiday destinations.
“Humberside Airport remains committed to providing our customers with routes to popular destinations, ensuring they don’t have to travel far to be able to access mainland Europe and other parts of the UK.”
SUN-AIR’s commercial director Kristian Tvergaard said: “Our strategy is to offer direct routes in close cooperation with the regional business sector, and we pursue this policy with the opening of the route Humberside – Aalborg – Billund.
“We have worked closely with Siemens Wind Power and Humberside Airport to bring this valuable niche market opportunity to life.”
Pauline Wade, director of International Trade at Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: “Better air connectivity with Europe and the rest of the world is essential if we are to attract further inward investment to Green Port Hull and the wider Humber region. “
