17th century manor hotel gets funding boost

17TH century Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel is set to undertake major expansion plans after signing a funding deal.

Owned by Richard Metcalfe since 2004, Pontefract’s Rogerthorpe was originally built in 1610.

Mr Metcalfe signed a deal with Barclays to fund the expansion of the site, providing funding for the original purchase as well as a barn conversion.

The hotel now has 27 bedrooms after the conversion on the 19th century barn into five more suites.

Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel employs over 80 staff locally and turnover for this year is expected to exceed £3m.

Richard Metcalfe, owner of Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel said: “All the five new bedrooms have individual character and design with open beams, state of the art technology and feature lighting. Bathrooms are equipped with TVs and Suite 19 boasts four king sized beds and its own dance floor – ideal for a bride to stay the night before her wedding with her bridesmaids. We’re already gaining 5 star reviews from professional hoteliers, trade magazines, editors and guests.”

Bryn Sutcliffe, Barclays relationship director commented: “We’ve supported Richard and the team since they purchased the business in 2004 and we’re very proud to be associated with the next stage of their development and growth. The new rooms will increase capacity and be a major attraction for new wedding business so we look forward to seeing the business grow throughout 2016 and beyond.”
