Vacant school site set for 150 homes

A HOUSEBUILDER has been given the green light to develop 150 new homes on the site of a former school.

Sheffield City Council granted permission for Miller Homes to develop its Moss Way site.

Planning was submitted in January for the site by DLP Planning on behalf of Miller Homes.

Westfield School, the original inhabitants of the site, closed down in 2006, and the 494,063 sq ft vacant brownfield site became available.

The 150 homes will be a mix of 1-4 bedroom houses, and a new primary access route will be developed from Moss Way road.

Applications for a former site following the school’s closure expired in 2011.

The original application made in January stated that the units are “considered to be deliverable and achievable” and able to contribute to Sheffield’s housing supply needs over the next five years.

Miller has three years to commence on site. A spokesperson for the company said: “We have been working with Sheffield City Council and are aiming to receive the final planning approval and plan to commence work later this year,” said Howard Mee Land and Planning Director of Miller Homes Yorkshire.

“The mix of homes will bring much needed new first time buyer and family homes to the village built to our usual 5* standard, giving house buyers a wealth of choice not available at the current time.”
