£65m University of Leeds science hub project up for grabs

THE tender process has begun at the University of Leeds’ North East Quarter Development.

It will see the relocation of the Computing, Physics and Astronomy departments, together with the construction of a Bragg Centre for Materials.

The £65m science and computing hub at its city campus will involve a redevelopment of the grade-II listed mining building.

Demolition of an estate and central boiler house will make way for a five-storey atrium linking the mining building to a new six-storey advanced materials hub, the Bragg Centre.

The research and teaching facility will provide a new gateway to the Northern part of the University of Leeds campus.

The University in looking to run a two-stage bid process for the development which is due to start on site in November 2017.
