Growth plans under the microscope as Leeds firm snapped up

LABORATORY supplier Gem Scientific has snapped up an instrument supply and repair business as it looks to grow.
The “ambitious” Batley-based business has acquired Yorkshire Scientific Instruments, which will become part of the group with immediate effect.
Leeds-based Yorkshire Scientific Instruments is a 30 year-old business involved in the supply and servicing of microscopes and precision weighing equipment to UK laboratories.
Earlier this year Gem signed an undisclosed six-figure financing deal to enable it to embark on its growth plans. It was the maiden investment for Solingen Private Equity.
Gem has supplied specialist laboratory products to the UK, Ireland and Europe for 19 years
The acquisition is part of an ambitious expansion plan to service the growing life sciences, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, education, manufacturing and medical technology sectors.
“This is a great opportunity for our two companies to utilise their respective expertise. It will improve our product and service offering for all clients whilst enhancing our local and national presence” said Gem Scientific managing director, Justin Welton.
