Protests as three circle for Leeds United ownership

WITH three offers on the table for Leeds United fans are urging the embattled chairman Massimo Cellino to sell the club as soon as possible.

In August it was announced that Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani, founder of London-based sports media company MP & Silva was interested in acquiring Mr Cellino’s 80% stake.

It was also rumoured that a Chinese consortium aided by Harrogate-born businessman Steve Tappin would be interested in a £100m deal for the club, although it is unclear where the third offer originates from.

Protest group Time to Go Massimo has launched a grassroots campaign on the back of these potential bids, accusing Cellino of “dithering” over the club’s sale.

His tenure has become an unpopular one amongst Leeds fans, who have staged numerous protests including organising a projection across the East Stand urging Mr Cellino to exit the club.

A spokesman for the group said “With Mr Cellino once again dithering over the sale of Leeds United, where there are 3 separate parties ready to do a deal, we wanted to give fans the opportunity to send a message of their own to encourage him to make his mind up.

“Whilst his intentions may be well founded, it has become clear over the course of his ownership of Leeds United that he is not in a position to move the club forward.”

The spokesman continued “If Mr Cellino is looking for a lasting legacy at Leeds United, the best thing he can do now is to complete a deal with one of the parties involved in discussions, allowing the club to move on to the next level and give the fans the successful, well managed club they deserve.”
