Britcon boosted by 40% trading increase

BUILDING, civil engineering and structural steelwork company Britcon has announced healthy business growth for the second half of 2016 with an anticipated 40% year-end growth on the last two years’ average to over £40m.
The North Lincolnshire and Yorkshire based business, which recorded a lower than expected £27m turnover for 2015 due to slower pipeline conversion impacted by the general election, said that the improved trading in 2016 would allow significant investment in its people and IT systems.
Over the last 12 months it has employed 20 new people across all areas of the business, including rapid growth of the Yorkshire office.
Britcon managing director Paul Clarkson said: “From late 2015 we saw a surge in opportunity across all key sectors, including energy and renewables, retail, industrial and commercial”. Although some projects were delayed, a healthy forward order book has allowed us to invest in the team and resources over the last 12 months to facilitate our expected trading in 2016 and beyond.”
Britcon is a part of the Hunt Group of Companies which specialises in the property sector.
Group CEO Shaun Hunt said: “Britcon has an excellent team that continues to make good progress as we emerge from difficult times across the industry. In particular I am very pleased with Britcon’s involvement in recent group development projects including a 21,000 sq ft industrial and retail scheme at Allerton Bywater and the conversion of the listed Hirst Priory to become a wedding and events venue. Britcon is also appointed to deliver 25,000 sq ft of industrial space at the hugely successful Markham Vale business location in Derbyshire.”
Britcon directly employs 90 people on its project sites across the UK. Key contracts secured in the last six month includes a £13.5m deal to deliver an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in Dagenham for food waste recycler ReFood (UK), a series of new developments, extensions and refurbishment projects valued over £10m for Lidl, and contracts worth £3.5m for global chemicals business Kemira.
Britcon’s Steelwork division, Britcon Engineering Services, has also seen a major boost accounting for over £5.5m of the £40 million total. This 30% growth is attributed to a continued increase in projects in the private commercial and industrial sectors, underpinned by continued strong performance in the rail industry and in particular Network Rail as it pursues its £25bn Railway Upgrade Plan.
The Yorkshire has secured a number of significant contracts in the region.
Key projects include the completion of a £4.2m technical centre at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Sheffield, a listed building conversion for The University of Huddersfield, an outdoor learning centre in Ilkley for Bradford City Council, and a new housing development for Leeds City Council.
