Tuck in: Where to dine in Sheffield

Having lived in the Steel City for four years I like to think I know my way around the food scene, especially when it comes to dining out in town. In my opinion, you’ll always have a good idea what type of food you fancy, so here’s a list of the best places to go according to cuisine.

INDIAN

This is a cuisine I find people often often crave, and Jumaria Spice has just what’s needed to satisfy that craving for spicy Indian dishes – crunchy popadaums and soft, warm naans and a range of spicy authentic curries. The restaurant is a large open space serving both buffet and a la carte options.

THAI

All Siam When it comes to good quality fresh Thai cuisine, service with a smile and an authentic atmosphere, there’s no questioning where to go.

Whist Ban Thai would be my secondary choice, All Siam Thai Restaurant on Ecclesall Road serves up the best Thai dishes along with the whole Thai experience from Sa-wat-dee-kha at the door to the doting service of the Thai staff.

All Siam is the kind of restaurant where you go a couple of times and the staff remember you and treat you as though you were family.

CHINESE

If you’re after a bit of oriental spice, book in or even take away at West Street’s Hui Wei restaurant and bar. Serving everything from aromatic duck and dim sum to dumplings and szechuan beef, the city centre venue is ideal whether you’re just nipping in for a bite to eat, or having a long relaxed sit down meal.

SPANISH

cubana, sheffield
It’s vibrant, colourful atmosphere is perfect for Tapas, dancing and cocktails and the restaurant boasts a huge selection of wines, both cold and hot tapas, side dishes and to-die-for desserts.

Cubana often has live singers in the restaurant on weekends along with a dark, intimate atmosphere and friendly service.

It’s especially ideal for a romantic date or for a celebration with a group of friends as the food is great for sharing and there is a downstairs bar and dancefloor where you can continue the evening!

FRENCH

There aren’t many french restaurants in Sheffield, especially good ones. Le Bistrot Pierre on Eccelesall Road is not only lovely in terms of the interior, but also hosts a range of delicious french-inspired dishes. I would highly recommend the bouillabaisse, honey-glazed chorizo and the house red wine.

KOREAN

It may be the only one in the city, but Ginseng has a lot to offer in the way of atmosphere and delicious authentic Korean cuisine. The venue itself sits in the popular West One Plaza and is a spacious, modern restaurant offering a Korean barbeque option at the tables for those who are feeling brave.

ITALIAN

VitosIn Sheffield you’re spoiled for choice with great Italian eateries, but these are two of the best. If you’re looking for something in the city centre, a little intimate restaurant called Piccolos on West Street serves gorgeous muscles and Italian-style seafood and red meat dishes. The service is fantastic and the setting is perfect for a quiet meal before heading down town.

Vitos is another independent restaurant outside the city centre with some quirky dishes on offer like wild boar and lobster ravioli. This authentic family-run restaurant is a quaint homely little restaurant I’d definitely recommend.
