Brewery toasts to success with international plans

A SHEFFIELD brewhouse, tap and kitchen which opened in May is toasting to success as it plans to serve up its hand-brewed artisan beers all over the country.

Sentinel Beer Co brews British, Continental and American style beers using its own recipes.

It is already supplying the newest addition to Sheffield’s bar scene, Kettle Black, as well as artisan pizza restaurant, Craft and Dough.

The business has also added to their team to accommodate growth, appointing more staff to help sell the beers outside of the steel city.

Having helped several breweries find their feet over his 30-year career, owner and founder world-renowned Master Brewer Alex Barlow wanted to offer something extra special to the customers tasting his wares.

The brand offers a unique experience at it’s Sheffield-based “Theatre of beer”, revolutionising the way beer is served.

He said: “70% of the walls are glass, so whether you’re inside or outside the building you can see it’s a brewery, which means you can see the whole journey from grain to glass in 20 metres.”

The brewery is also believed to be the only bar in the world to serve their beer straight from the brewery tank via handpull.

He added: “Its undoubtedly the freshest, most hygenic way of doing it, because you’re not even transferring the beer into a cask, there’s no chance of the beer becoming infected or stale or oxidised.

“Anyone who’s worked in a brewery will generally say that the beer in the last tank before it goes into the package to leave the brewery, is the best beer. And that’s literally what we’re doing for customers.”

Sentinel Brewing Co, will now be looking to add extra vessels into the bar and significantly expand the site and potentially opening sites abroad too.
