North Yorkshire fish & chip restaurants named best in UK

THREE of North Yorkshire’s fish and chip restaurants have been named among the best in the whole of the UK.

The UK’s top fish and chip restaurants were announced this week by the 2017 National Fish and Chip Awards, which celebrates the Great British tradition of quality fish and chips.

The awards – which are organised annually by Seafish and have over 13 separate categories – are considered the ‘oscars’ of the fish frying industry.

Mister C’s in Selby, Trenchers restaurant and The Fisherman’s Wife – both in Whitby – have been chosen based on the quality of their sourcing policies, restaurant facilities and appearance, staff training, menu variation, marketing and promotional activities.

The mystery shoppers also went in and tasted the restaurants’ fish and chips to determine the quality of the customer service and the fish itself.

The North Yorkshire finalists will now go onto the next stage of the awards, competing for the highly-coveted title of National Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year.

Over the next few weeks, the restaurants will be subjected to further mystery shopping assessments and in-depth judging.

This next stage of the competition will whittle down the top 10 to establish the top five UK fish and chip restaurants that will compete for the top accolade to eventually be presented at the awards ceremony, held in London on 26 January 2017.

Chief Executive of Seafish Marcus Coleman said: “This award recognises our country’s best fish and chip restaurants for their commitment and high level of professionalism across all aspects of running a successful restaurant.”
