Final phase of £10m Printworks development begins

LEEDS CITY COLLEGE is embarking on the final phase of its Printworks campus, having recently opened its University Centre development.
The College is investing in the renovation of the historic works into a school of technology and house commercial services which include a restaurant and hair salon.
The South Bank development will be home to more than 1,300 students.
The final phase will be completed before September 2017, and Leeds City Region LEP representatives along with council leader Judith Blake were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony for the last phase.
Stephanie Burras, founder and chief executive of Ahead Partnership said: “The LEP is supporting this investment with almost £9m investment through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Growth Deal – a £1 billion package of government investment to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
“This is helping to preserve an important grade II listed building in the heart of the City and develop an innovative learning environment for the next generation of entrepreneurs in the technological, engineering and manufacturing sectors.”
John Gittins, divisional director at Interserve, the contractors of the project, said: “Interserve is delighted to have been appointed for the final phase of the Printworks Campus as part of Leeds City College’s continued investment in its facilities.
“We have a strong pedigree within both the further education and heritage sectors; and we are really looking forward to working with the college and conservation team on one of the most recognisable listed landmark buildings in Leeds.”
Leeds City College has been undergoing a major transformation, and has just announced consultation plans for a 15,000 sq ft Health and Caring Services, Digital and Creative Arts centre at Quarry Hill as well as a new facility for Leeds College of Music.
