ConferenceLeeds calls on business leaders to join ambassador programme

THE hunt is on for business leaders to join ConferenceLeeds’ ambassador programme as it looks to build on the city’s recent success with business tourism contributing £501m to the Leeds economy and an estimated four million delegates visiting in 2015.

ConferenceLeeds is looking to work with industry leading experts, as well as business leaders and stakeholders throughout the city, to support in attracting national and international conferences.

It says working with these ambassadors will allow the city to continue to build its sector strengths in digital, health and innovation, financial and manufacturing, as well as raise the city’s profile as a world class conferencing destination, increasing the economic impact that conferences bring to the city.

Jennifer Young, head of ConferenceLeeds, said: “The development of our conference ambassador programme means we are able to tap into the vast amount of expertise that exists in Leeds, both within our academia and in our key sectors of digital, health and innovation, financial and manufacturing. The ambassadors joining our programme will be able to call on the support of our knowledgeable team during any stage of organising a conference, from the initial bidding stage to liaising with conference buyers and coordinating appropriate accommodation.

“As we look ahead to 2017 the programme will be a major focus for us as it begins to build momentum, so we would encourage those that are interested to get in touch with the team to discuss their options. Leeds has so much untapped expertise and there’s no better way to showcase this than by being part of hosting a sector strength conference in your home city.”

Helena Marzo-Ortega at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) and the University of Leeds, is working with ConferenceLeeds as an ambassador.

She said: “I worked with ConferenceLeeds to support with our bid to bring the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society to Leeds in 2017. At the LTHT and University, we work hard to showcase our expertise in the healthcare sector on a global scale and being able to hold this conference in Leeds has given us the perfect opportunity to do so.

“Not only that, but the recognition I have had from within the healthcare industry, both nationally and internationally, has been excellent and something I am very proud of.”
