7 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

1. Christkindelmarkt

Date: Friday 11th November – Sunday 18th December
Location: Millennium square, Leeds

One of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK returns to Leeds this weekend with traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, a Christmas carousel ride, twinkling colourful lights and its unique continental festive atmosphere.

The new market layout will include an open-air square with a stage that will feature a daily programme of music as well as a weekly children’s show. The family-friendly event will include sing-alongs, games, face painting, balloon modelling and appearances from winter wonderland princesses and other costumed characters.

Remeberance day3. Remembrance Sunday
Date: Sunday 13th November
Location: Yorkshire Air Museum, York

This Sunday a series of services will offer a chance to remember the sacrifice of so many allied aircrews of numerous nationalities. The wreath-laying services will start at the French Memorial at 11am and will be followed by a Parade which returns to the Village Green where Military and civic representatives will be asked to take the salute.

To celebrate its 24th year, the Humber Mouth literature festival will be offering its most diverse line up yet. BAFTA and MOBO award winning hip-hop artist and writer Akala, hip-hop Shakespeare, David Bowie drummer Woody Woodmansey, musical journalist Sylvia Patterson, The Magnetic North and many more are set to perform during the course of the festival.

After great success last year the largest film festival in the UK outside London returns, celebrating its 30th anniversary. Using 30 different venues across the city, the festival will offer over 300 events, each celebrating global filmmaking culture at its best with a wide choice of film experiences.

Location: Scarborough Spa Conference Venue

The 19th annual Scarborough Dance Festival is set to be packed with a variety of modern, Latin and popular social sequence dancing with learn and improve sessions, workshops and demonstrations from future stars. Many of the festivals previous demonstrators are now professionals, some are even currently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing!
